An Evening with Toby Altman, Jennifer Nelson, and Alison A. Ogunmokun

We're excited to have Toby Altman, Alison A. Ogunmokun, and Jennifer Nelson reading at Unabridged Bookstore!

Toby Altman is the author the recent book, ARCADIA, INDIANA, among others.

Arcadia, Indiana is a mutant tragedy, a five act-sonnet sequence, staged in the trash-choked landscape of pastoral fantasy. It plays with narrative, labor, sexuality, and form, starting with a murder in an Indiana steel factory and ending with the Sphinx refusing all of Oedipus' solutions to her riddles. This play is a Renaissance tragedy in contemporary drag, destabilizing literary boundaries to develop a poetics of trash, in which the repressed and discarded parts of (literary) history return to strangle their point of origin.

Toby Altman is the author of Arcadia, Indiana (Plays Inverse, 2017) and five chapbooks, including Security Theater (Present Tense Pamphlets, 2016). His poems can be found in Crazyhorse, Jubilat, Lana Turner, and other journals and anthologies.

Jennifer Nelson is an assistant professor in the department of Art History, Theory, and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is also the author of two books of poems: Aim at the Centaur Stealing Your Wife (UDP, 2015) and Civilization Makes Me Lonely (Ahsahta, 2017). Her poems have recently appeared or are forthcoming in BathHouse, LIT, Make: A Literary Magazine, Palimpsest, Pinwheel, and Versal.

Alison A. Ogunmokun is a writer, comedian, and good vibe spreader. Born to immigrant parents, Alison writes about the intersection of her often marginalized identities. She co-curates a monthly live lit series, called "Spread Your Own Gossip". She will begin study at the MFA Cross-Genre program at the University of California in San Diego. She’s real jazzed to be here!
