Fiction Book Club: "The Lost Book of Adana Moreau" by Michael Zapata

Join our Fiction Book Club in a monthly meeting to discuss a wide array of literary fiction. With an eclectic mix of authors, themes, periods, and styles, this group will explore both classic and contemporary literature. This year the Unabridged Fiction Book Club will be exploring the literary heritage of Chicago! We will be focusing on novels written by Chicagoans, set in the city, or those that add to our understanding of Chicago's history and culture. For questions about this book club, email Matt at matt@unabridgedbookstore.com.

The Fiction Book Club will meet to discuss The Lost Book of Adana Moreau by Michael Zapata on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 at 7:30pm.

In 1929 in New Orleans, a Dominican immigrant named Adana Moreau writes a science fiction novel. The novel earns rave reviews, and Adana begins a sequel. Then she falls gravely ill. Just before she dies, she destroys the only copy of the manuscript.

Decades later in Chicago, Saul Drower is cleaning out his dead grandfather's home when he discovers a mysterious manuscript written by none other than Adana Moreau. With the help of his friend Javier, Saul tracks down an address for Adana's son in New Orleans, but as Hurricane Katrina strikes, they must head to the storm-ravaged city for answers. What results is a brilliantly layered masterpiece--an ode to home, storytelling and the possibility of parallel worlds.

Michael Zapata is a founding editor of MAKE Literary Magazine. His debut novel The Lost Book of Adana Moreau won the Chicago Review of Book Award for Fiction and was a finalist for the Heartland Booksellers Award for Fiction.
